According to Daily Trust, the face-off started on the night of March, 7 when the terrorists attacked a military facility at Bita in a bid to capture Gwoza. There attempt however met stiff resistance as the soldiers engaged the terrorists. The fight lasted all night and continued the following morning.
In a tactical move, fighter jets were deployed from Yola to assist the ground troops who were becoming overwhelmed by the surprised attack. The presence of the jets was a relief to the troops according to a source close to the on-going war zone.Gwoza was recently recaptured from the terrorist group and military operatives had assured Internally Displaced Persons in camps of safety. The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has claimed that the insurgency has been technically defeated but pockets of attacks are still being recorded as the war against insurgency continues.
